Roman Auxiliary Soldier

The Auxilia were non-citizen troops attached to the citizen legions, and provided almost all of the Roman army's cavalry and more specialised troops. The auxilia thus represented three-fifths of Rome's regular land forces by the 2nd century. He is wearing lorica hamata, and has an oval shield common with auxiliary forces.
