Several Non-Germans served in the German armed forces during World War II as volunteers, conscripts, or otherwise induced to join. In German war-time propaganda those who volunteered for service were referred to as Freiwillige ("volunteers"). At the same time, many non-Germans in the German armed forces were conscripts or recruited from prisoner-of-war camps.
The Legion of French Volunteers Against Bolshevism (LVF) was fromed from anti-Bolshevik volunteers in France, with the intention of participating in the German invasion of the Soviet Union as part of the German Army. The LVF had most of its members drawn from the various far-right political factions that supported Nazi policy.
