The outbreak of war in August 1914 was greeted with enthusiasm in Britain. But to meet its commitment to its allies, the nation would have to expand its small professional army and make it ready for war as quickly as possible. Despite the small initital size, the British army was well trained and equipped, with an emphasis on marksmanship and rate of fire.

Most pre-war officers came from families with military connections, the gentry or the peerage and a public school education was almost essential. In 1913, about 2% of regular officers had been promoted from the ranks. In September 1914, Lord Kitchener announced that he was looking for volunteers and regular NCOs to provide officers for the expanding army. Most of the volunteers came from the middle class, with the largest group from commercial and clerical occupations (27%), followed by teachers and students (18%) and professional men (15%).

Best WW1 British Officer in Lego Form

The colour scheme is reminiscent of a couple of UB’s Blackadder releases for Trench Day – actually a very nice look for WW1 British officers. This minifig has all the exceptional detailing that UB is known for, plus a very cool moustache design for the head print. I gave my copy a hand painted British officer’s cap from Brickssoldier (see photo), which I feel is an upgrade over what comes with this release. But this is an awesome minifig nevertheless!

    Excellent and detailed figure

The minifigure arrived quickly from the UK to the US and the quality of the print is excellent. It looks really cool to boot! I'm very satisfied with my purchase. If you're into this era, I highly recommend getting this figure.

Very good minifigure, great designs, good hat and face design also.

I like this minifigure very much, the designs are very good and it really fits in with my other figures. Shame it doesn’t come with a pistol or a watch or something else, so I had to give the figure one of my leftover pistols and a watch piece. Overall good though.
