A WW2 US Army infantry squad consisted of 12 men. Capable of significant individual firepower from the M1 Garand, BAR teams would provide additional support where necessary. The US Army was highly mechanised and was capable of rapid deployment to wherever troops were needed.
The squad leader was typically a Sergeant (later Staff Sergeant) who was responsible for executing orders from the platoon leader, controlling the squad's movement, and directing fire.
