The Royal Naval Division was formed in 1914 from Royal Navy and Royal Marine reservists and volunteers, who were not needed for service at sea. Fighting initially at Antwerp and famously at Gallipoli before transferring to Army command as the 63rd (Royal Naval) Division in 1916.
