The Prussian Landwehr (1813–1815) was a vital militia force raised to fight Napoleon, comprised of men aged 18–45 not in the regular army. Established in early 1813 as a "home guard," these troops were quickly mobilised, often poorly equipped initially, but became effective, combat-hardened soldiers by the 1815 Waterloo campaign, known for their distinctive blue Litewka coat and provincial-coloured caps.
